Groundhogs in Hong Kong

Some days my life here feels like Groundhog Day. You know that movie? 1993... Bill Murray. Yes, well sometimes my life here feels like that. "The Golden Mickeys, The Golden Mickeys, It's the Golden Mickeys!"
I have worked the past ten days. That's a lot of shows. Many hours of "The Golden Mickeys."
THANK HEAVEN FOR TWO DAYS OFF.

Just some TALK...
So, I realized that I have been neglecting the actual BLOGGING of life here in Hong Kong. Things have just be so "life" that I don't feel that there's as much to write about as there once was. I just go to work, hang out in my apartment, go to church in Wan Chai, and, well... sometimes I get off random MTR stops and wander around to see what there is to see. Life is good.
OBSERVATIONS ON HONG KONG:
* These people have an UNCANNY ability to sleep- like, REALLY crash out- during their public transportation rides. Whether it is by bus or train, they are somehow able to WAKE UP right before they need to get off. It's UNBELIEVABLE!!! I love it!
* When Young-Chinese-boys-who-dress-you-during-the-show-you're-in have crushes on you and act like weirdos- they're just flirting. And if you TELL them that they're just flirting with you, (Oh, Kenny! You know you're just flirting with me!) they start to act like normal people. Hee hee. It kind of reminds me of elementary school- when Randy Zamperelli would pull my hair- he really just liked me! Glad I am JUST NOW figuring this out- at 25...
* "Cold" here in Hong Kong is anything below 70 degrees. If it's ANYTHING below that, the people are bundled up in HEAVY coats, scarves, and snow boots... I'm outside wearing capris and flip flops saying, "Uh, where's the snow?"
* Picking your nose in public is perfectly acceptable.
* Clipping your fingernails on public transportation is also acceptable... I have witnessed this SEVERAL times!!! ACK! Clip, clip, clip... I HATE that sound!
Why does it seem as if my view on this amazing place is slowly taking a downhill turn?? I DO still enjoy everything here, don't get me wrong- these are just random OBSERVATIONS and in no way reflect my feeling towards this place or it's people :-)
* The people here love hugs and kisses
* The locals think I am funny... HYSTERICAL actually. It makes me smile. All of the locals in my cast laugh at everything I say, even if I wasn 't being particularly witty or endearing at the moment.
* I still hate meat markets.
* I still miss Taco Bell
* Driving a car here in HK is a luxury- we are spoiled in the States! (And I'm gonna be honest- I am really excited about coming home and being spoiled with a Madza 6 so I can ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM WHEREVER I WANT!)
* Tipping isn't necessary here in HK. But I feel guilty not tipping a waiter or a cab driver... hmmm.
* Taxes here are EXPENSIVE- but paying my tithing is a blessing. :-)
* There are palm trees and it's a balmy 65 degrees... on JANUARY 11!!! Hee hee! I LOVE IT!
* There is not as much pollution when it is "cold."
* I want a kitty.
* I bought a plant in September. It's still alive.
* My TV makes a weird buzzing noise when I turn it off, so I unplug it. Last month a girl in my cast burnt her apartment down- the TV blew up and that was the end of Flat C, 6/F, Tower 8.
* People in my cast think I am Amish. (Sigh...)
* My cleaning ladies don't do as good of a job as they used to...
* Earthquakes in Taiwan ruin internet service in Hong Kong.
* Last of all: Pluto is a dog. Goofy is a dog. Why is it that Goofy TALKS and can walk on two legs (and can wear clothes for that matter...), while Pluto is left groveling on all four legs with the bark of my mom's poodle? THAT is a question...
Be good. All is happy here in Hong Kong. :-)
My best friend from the days of junior high and high school is having a baby on Friday. It's strange to think that she's going to be a mommy. YAY HEATHER! I am excited for you!

Five Great Days in Hong Kong
Well, so as most of you know, last week my baby sister, Elizabeth (BIFF), and her husband, Brett, came to Hong Kong to spend five days with ME!!! I was lucky enough to have work off for 3/5 days- so we had lots of time together. It really was so much fun sharing my "Hong Kong Life" with my "Home Life." I loved it.
Biff and Brett arrived last Friday, the 29th. I was surprised at how awake they were after the plane ride. That night we just soaked up Hong Kong culture. I took them to Causeway Bay- a place where THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of people hang out on a Friday night. I wanted them to have their first look at HONG KONG in a place that SCREAMED Hong Kong culture. I loved watching their faces! We ate Mexican food in Hong Kong that first night. They come all the way to Hong Kong to eat MEXICAN food on their first night in China. Yup.
The next day, Saturday, Biff and Brett headed to the Giant Buddha while I did three shows at work. After that I met up with them, and decided that since the skies had cleared of their clouds and a good chunk of the pollution, we were changing the planned itinerary and heading to "The Peak." The day Biff and Brett got here the weather was gross... and I was NOT a happy camper. Luckily though, the forecasters were wrong and the weather was nearly perfect the whole time they were here! YAY!
Anyway, THE PEAK:
"The Avenue of the Stars" in TST
Me and public transportation. This is my life. Right here. Life on the Citybus #962.
Cool sand in Hong Kong!!!!
Uh, I think this could be my bed. I love shoes. I love this giant pink shoe.
